One of the easiest ways to liven up your website, social media and even emails to potential customers is with video testimonials from your customers. Videos are a great way to add life to your website, and testimonials are much more powerful when it is a customer on video, rather than just typed words.

Video conveys emotion, and emotion resonates with people far better that written words. We can see body language, hear inflection and tone, and see the person speaking. Even better, video creates a stronger response — people feel that the product and service must be great if someone took the time to record a video!

Testimonials are best when the customer shares their story – why they contacted you, the service they needed, how the service was performed and how they like the product, and whether they would recommend the product and company to others.

If the customer has trouble, simply ask them questions — Why did they contact you? Why did they select your company? What do they like best about the product and your team? How do they feel about recommending your company to others? You can put video to work for you with these simple tips:

• Make sure your camera is good quality.  Fortunately most of us have access to excellent camera and video capability on our smartphones or tablets. It is wise to double check your settings and educate yourself on how to use them.

• Practice several times before working with a real customer. This will allow you time to practice so you figure out what works and what doesn’t work.

• Keep the camera stable – use a tripod, or if you have to hold it, keep your elbows close to your body while shooting.

• Get close so the audio is good quality. Avoid surrounding noises like phones ringing, traffic, television, kids, etc.

• Keep the camera at the customer’s eye level. Try to avoid aiming the camera up at the person who is talking. This is not the most flattering angle.

• Avoid windows, open doors or other light sources behind the customer. If you have to shoot outside on a sunny day, find some shade, or stand sideways to the sun.

• Smile and have fun! The more fun you are having, the more relaxed the customer will be.

• Aim for two or three “takes” so you have a better chance of getting exactly what you are looking for.

Once you have the video, you can use simple video editing tools to add your logo, phone number and web address, or leave it as is – don’t let the lack of editing ability keep you from getting it done. Then when it’s finished upload to your YouTube channel, embed the video on your website, share via social media and include links to your video testimonials page in your email signature file.

As your team talks with your customer, make sure to equip them with the right tools to capture these priceless stories. Contact the team at R2R Marketing to learn more about the most effective way to showcase your company with a video testimony!
